Andersen Racing Signs Mansur
For 2007 Hankook Tires FF2000 Series
FAIRFIELD, N.J., Jan. 10 - Contenders for the 2007 Hankook Tires Formula
Ford 2000 championship became clearer today when Dan Andersen of Andersen
Racing announced that he has signed 17-year-old Terrick Mansur of Aruba to
compete in that series this season.
Mansur will drive an Andersen Racing entry in the first of three series the
Fairfield, N.J.-based team uses in its comprehensive development program to
create future Indy Racing League (IRL) and Champ Car World Series stars. In a
well-thought-out and logical approach, the team nurtures drivers in the Hankook
Formula Ford 2000 series and then the Star Mazda Championship presented by
Goodyear before advancing them onto the final rung of its ladder, the Indy Pro
Series, the official development series of the IRL.
"We will be running three full-season drivers and an occasional fourth car
this year in the Hankook series," Andersen noted. "We expect to announce
our
second driver within days, and our third full-season driver later this month.
The team is currently looking at four other candidates for that final seat."
Mansur has already shown signs of great promise. He is coming off an
excellent 2006 season, winning both the FSCCA Formula Car Magazine Southeast
Championship and the FSCCA South Atlantic Road Racing Championship.
He broke the FSCCA track record at Road Atlanta in November when he won the
pole for the FSCCA national championship race there, and then went on to finish
second in that event, just four-tenths of a second behind.
Mansur is a graduate of the Skip Barber program and he also has a
distinguished record in karting, which he began in 1997, eight years after
he was born in Miami. He carries dual nationalities of the United States
and the Netherlands, and he is fluent in four languages.
Prior to signing with Andersen Racing, Mansur participated in a test with
the team at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Fla., right before the New
Year's Day holiday. Ricardo Vassmer, who has already signed with the team
for the 2007 Star Mazda campaign, tested one of the team's Star Mazda cars
there, while Mansur concentrated on one of the team's Hankook Tires Van Diemen
F2000 cars, which uses Zetec power.
"Terrick did a great job," Andersen said of his new charge. "We
got a lot
of laps in, and it's all excellent preparation for the upcoming season. Mike
Reggio was there working as his engineer, and Greg Maschinot did the
mechanical work."
"I enjoyed working with Mike and Greg," Mansur said. "This was
my first
test with Andersen Racing, but I ran at Homestead once before in a Skip
Barber race; I think I finished fourth.
"We were dropping our lap times slowly and surely," he added. "The
Andersen
team is very good. We're all very positive, and hopefully we can win the
series."
The 12-race Hankook Tires F2000 series, which consists of doubleheaders on
six different weekends, opens April 13-15 at VIRginia International Raceway in
Alton, Va.
Three-time SCCA Formula Continental national champion Mike Andersen, Dan's
son and one of the team's driving coaches, won the series' Silver Medal in 2006.
He competes in the series for fun as his business schedule permits.
