Baas Is Optimistic About His Chances
In Saturday's Rolex Series Race
At Homestead After Successful Test at VIR
NOBLESVILLE, Ind., March 21 - Last week Ian Baas wasn't quite sure what to
think about his chances in Saturday afternoon's Linder Industrial Komatsu Grand
Prix of Miami Rolex Series race at Homestead-Miami Speedway in Homestead, Fla.
Now he's excited about them.
The rising star from Noblesville, Ind., recorded laps that were under the
current VIRginia International Speedway Rolex Series GT track record when he
tested the car he'll drive at Homestead this weekend on the Alton, Va., road
course earlier this week.
The excellent test gives the 2006 Rolex 24 at Daytona winner added confidence
going into both Saturday's race at Homestead and the race immediately after
it, which will be held at VIR on April 28.
Baas will drive the At Speed Motorsports Porsche 997 with Bob Miller of
Sykesville, Md., in both races. Their car, No. 28, is sponsored by Celette and
Ian
Global Shipping.
Another one of their co-drivers crashed the car in the 2007 season opener,
the Rolex 24 at Daytona, earlier this year. No one was quite sure how the car
would perform after repairs were made. But the whole team, Baas included, was
delighted when Baas was able to drive it at speeds under the current GT track
record earlier this week at VIR.
Although the Rolex Series is very competitive, Baas, Miller and the rest of
the team will do their best to record a good finish in Saturday's race at
Homestead, which will be broadcast live on SPEED starting at 2 p.m. Eastern time.
Baas has tested a Porsche 996 at Homestead, but this will be his first race
on the 2.3-mile road course.
The Rolex Series action starts with practice sessions on Thursday afternoon
at 2 p.m., followed by practice and qualifying on Friday. The race itself is
set for 400 kilometers or 250 miles (109 laps) and a two-hour-and-30-minute time
limit. It accompanies the Indy Racing League's IndyCar and Indy Pro Series
season openers.
Baas will drive in selected Rolex Series races this year. He is also
competing in the complete SPEED World Challenge Touring Car Series with another
team.

Series' Web site at grand-am.com. The latter will have live timing and scoring
and an audio Webcast from Homestead.
