USF2000 Names Pi Research Its Official
ECU and Wiring Harness Provider
PALMETTO, Fla., Jan. 15 - The cars competing in the USF2000 National
Championship presented by Cooper Racing Tires and powered by Mazda will be Mazdas
or Fords, but all of them will also have a Cosworth on board.
That's because today Cosworth Electronics was named the official Electronic
Control Unit (ECU) and wiring harness provider for the series, under its Pi
Research brand.
"All cars must use either the current T2 model or the new, updated CD4
model, which has many convenience features," said Dan Andersen, president and
chief executive officer of Andersen Promotions, which administers the Indy
Racing League's newest series.
"I have chosen Pi since the mid-1990s, and we are delighted to select it as
our spec provider for ECUs and harnesses for the USF2000 series," Andersen
continued. "Its quality is second to none, and we strongly recommend its
data systems to our competitors as well."
Since its formation in a small shop in London in 1958, Cosworth has
developed to become a leading provider of high-performance technologies in a
diverse range of industries including aerospace, defense, energy, marine and
automotive.
Cosworth achieved its first racing victory when Jim Clark was victorious in
a Formula Junior race in a Lotus 18 at Goodwood in 1960. From there
Cosworth grew into one of the most successful engine manufacturers in history,
with driver and manufacturer titles in Formula 1, the Indy Racing League, Champ
Car, WRC and MotoGP.
The company's history and its more recent diversification is outlined on
its Web site at cosworth.com.
Although it is headquartered in Great Britain, Cosworth operates three
facilities in the United States located in Indianapolis, Ind.; Mooresville, N.C.
and Torrance, Calif.
Sanctioned by the Indy Racing League (IRL), the USF2000 National
Championship is one of only two series that are part of both the IRL's Road to Indy
ladder system and the MAZDASPEED_Motorsports driver development program. The
series' 2010 season will open with a doubleheader March 27-28 on the street
circuit in St. Petersburg, Fla. in support of an IZOD_IndyCar Series
headliner.
